Former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest defender George Elokobi has sent messages to both sets of fans on Twitter after making a guest appearance at Tuesday’s meeting between the two teams at Molineux.

Elokobi made use of Colchester United’s empty schedule to return to the ground at which he spent six years, with two of his brothers.

The Cameroonian then performed a lap of honour at half-time of Wolves’ 1-0 Championship win, and was warmly received by home and away fans alike.

Afterwards, Elokobi took to Twitter to pay thanks to both of his former clubs.

“Touched by fantastic reception from @Wolves fans players staffs saying a HUGE thank you to each and every one of you,” he wrote.

“Big shoutout to @NFFC fans 4 a great reception last night I appreciate you all & best wishes 4 the rest of the season.”

Elokobi arrived at Wolves from Colchester in 2008 and was part of the club’s promotion-winning campaign the following year.

The now 31-year-old appeared regularly for the Black Country club at Premier League level, but left Molineux in 2014 upon the club’s return to the Championship from League One.

Two years earlier, Elokobi moved across the Midlands to join Nottingham Forest on loan, appearing on 12 occasions for the Trentside club.

Nouha Dicko’s second-half strike gave Wolves their fifth straight win to keep Forest just two points adrift of the bottom three in 20th position.
