The Rangers defender is feeling positive after moving to Ibrox this summer.
Edmundson was a summer signing from Oldham and is part of a four-man unit competing for two places in the heart of Gerrard’s defence.
Making four appearances so far this season, the defender has been given initial opportunities as he tries to improve and show he can be a long-term pick in the position.
For now, he’s just happy working day-to-day with Gerrard and the rest of the backroom staff.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Edmundson said: “He speaks to me regularly. I knew when I was coming in that I wasn’t just going to fly straight into the team. You’ve got to earn your place.
“But he does speak to me about little things I need to improve on, or tell me that I’m doing well and to just keep my head up and keep going.
“He’s been great – and all the backroom staff. All the sessions, all the staff are really good and really help you.
“They just want you to improve and be the best you can be.”
What are Edmundson’s aims this season?
Currently it looks like Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson are the prime picks for Gerrard in central defence.
With Swedish international Filip Helander also waiting in the wings, Edmundson has a battle on his hands to play regularly.
Prior to joining the Gers, he had never played above English League One level.
If he can make over 15 appearances this season, it’ll be seen as a successful year and something he can build on.
Any more than that would likely be the result of a drop off in form of others.
Edmundson must be ready to capitalise on that if it occurs, as Gerrard can be quite ruthless with his team selections.
If he can impress when he gets his next chance, there’s no reason to think he couldn’t have an extended run in the team.
