George Dobson has told the Sunderland Echo that he struggled with training at Sunderland soon after joining.

Dobson joined Sunderland from Walsall in the summer, and he admits it was a massive step up.

Although Sunderland and Walsall were competing in the same league last year, there was a marked difference in quality between the two squads.

Sunderland made it all the way to the play off final, while Walsall were relegated.

And Dobson admits it was an eye-opening when he joined in his first few training sessions at the club.

“The training here is just so much more intense and sharp,” he said.

“I’m getting used to it now, more and more day by day. At first, the first six weeks I was coming off the training pitch just thinking, wow. This is a step up.

“In the games I feel like I’ve done well, so when I properly adjust to the training it will only push me on.”

Dobson has made a solid start at the Stadium of Light, with the central midfielder earning praise for Jack Ross’s side.

Dobson already has played an important role in Sunderland’s season, and has featured fairly regularly, even if he hasn’t been a permanent starter.

Sunderland are currently sat in sixth place in the League One table, with their next league match coming against Wycombe Wanderers after the international break.
