Glasgow Rangers fan George Byers has suggested that he would not need to convincing to make the move to Ibrox.
George Byers has told Mail Sport that he would love to move to Rangers in the future, particularly if the Gers came calling while Steven Gerrard is in charge at Ibrox.
The 22-year-old has taken some time to establish himself in the Swans’ first-team, only making his debut for the club at the start of the campaign. But he has now made 11 appearances in all competitions, and scored two goals in his last four appearances for Graham Potter’s side.
However, while he may have started to force his way into Potter’s plans in recent weeks, Byers has seemingly suggested that he would quite happily leave the Liberty Stadium if the chance came up to join Rangers at some stage in the future.
“If Rangers ever came in for me, I’d jump at it. They wouldn’t even need to ask the question,” he told Mail Sport. “Not many people get to play for their boyhood club. So it’s one of my dreams – to play for Rangers.
“If the opportunity came up, especially now under a guy like Gerrard, it would be something else.”
Byers has predominantly played as a central midfielder this season. That perhaps dents the chances of Rangers deciding to pursue the former Scotland under-17 international as Steven Gerrard’s side already boast a lot of quality in that area of the pitch.
He is versatile and young enough to develop significantly in the future, so there will be plenty of Rangers fans who would urge Gerrard to consider a future bid – particularly because of his affection for the Gers.
But with Byers’ role with the Swans growing in recent times, it seems highly unlikely that the Championship side would have any interest in making it easy for Rangers to land the youngster if the Light Blues did want to offer him his dream move anytime soon.
