Celtic recently signed Kundai Benyu following his departure from Ipswich Town in the summer transfer window.

Former Heart of Midlothian and Scotland national football team manager George Burley has praised Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers for signing Kundai Benyu, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.

The Scottish Premiership giants have secured the services of Benyu on a free transfer following his departure from Ipswich Town in the Championship in England at the end of last season.

Burley, who is now 61 years of age, has praised Celtic manager Rodgers for signing the 19-year-old midfielder, stating that the deal shows that the former Liverpool boss is planning ahead.

“He is building the club,” Burley told The Scottish Sun about Rodgers. “He’s just brought in a young player from Ipswich, well pinched him in all honesty!

“But he’s a 19-year-old with potential and he’ll pay a small amount at a tribunal so it shows he’s planning ahead.”

Benyu is a very talented and promising young midfielder, and playing under a brilliant coach such as Rodgers is only going to help him develop as a footballer.

The teenage midfielder failed to make a single appearance in the Championship for Ipswich, but he played well during a loan spell at Aldershot Town.

As reported by BBC Sport, Benyu scored five goals in 23 appearances for the National League club during his loan spell.
