The 20-year-old winger did not start the match at the Riverside Stadium, but he came on as a substitute just before the hour mark.
Boateng was following the game, and the former Netherlands international midfielder praised Traore on Twitter.
The former Nottingham Forest player stated that the youngster needs to add end product to his game.
However, Boateng’s prediction that Middlesbrough could take something from the match did not come true, as Tottenham won 2-1.
Traore joined Premier League club Middlesbrough from Championship side Villa in the summer transfer window.
The former Spain Under-19 international winger played 10 times in the Premier League for Villa last season, creating one chance in the process.
The former Barcelona winger has played in two league matches for Boro so far this campaign.
Middlesbrough are 15th in the Premier League table at the moment with five points from six matches, just two points above the relegation zone.
