Former Aston Villa midfielder George Boateng has been commenting on the performances of Idrissa Gana Gueye at Villa Park last season.

It seems that Everton have picked up a bargain in the transfer window this summer with the signature of Gueye from Aston Villa.

He cost £7.1 million, as per his release clause in his Villa Park contract, and has had an excellent start to life at Goodison Park

But many Villa fans will be wondering where this Gueye was last term.

It is well known he had some fairly impressive statistics at the club last season but tht never truly equated into good form – with Villa finishing bottom of the table.

Speaking to the Sky Sports Fantasy Football Club show former Villa midfielder Boateng commented on the Everton star’s performances in the midlands last season:

“At Villa he was not really a star. But if you look at the stats that says quite a lot. Maybe that’s why Ronald Koeman, or Everton, took him.

“If you watched the Villa games last season he was not impressive. He didn’t do anything that would catch your eye.

“But those stats don’t lie.”

There is no doubt that playing in a more organised and talented squad is allowing Gueye to show off his true quality this term.

For many he has been the star man in his position at this stage of the season and might just prove to be Everton’s very own N’Golo Kante this term.

Leaving Villa fans perplexed.
