Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was announced that Scott Bain had signed a new contract until June 2024.

What’s the story?

Well, Celtic have showed great faith in the 30-year-old by handing him a two-year contract extension, despite his struggles.

Bain featured heavily during the nightmarish 2020/21 campaign last term, which saw Celtic lose the Scottish Premiership title to Rangers.

The 3-cap Scotland international made 23 appearances as Vasilis Barkas struggled in Glasgow, conceding 30 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

Bain was shaky when standing in for Barkas last term, leading to the signing of Joe Hart, who has walked straight in to the No.1 spot.

As a result, Bain has only made four appearances this season, in which he’s conceded six goals and kept just one clean sheet.

As you can see below, the Celtic fans on Twitter are not happy about this news.

Scott Bain news isn’t the worst for Celtic

Admittedly, the Edinburgh-born glovesman is not the greatest goalkeeper Celtic will ever have, and you can see why supporters have questioned this decision.

However, Bain is simply acting as Hart’s understudy, so the uproar about this move isn’t entirely necessary.

A No.2 goalkeeper simply has to come in and be competent in between the sticks, which Bain is – albeit unspectacular at times.

In our view, we suggest Ange Postecoglou scours the market for a new backup goalkeeper in the time between now and Bain’s new contract expiring.

For the time being, however, Bain will do at No.2.

For now, let’s see what the Celtic fans on Twitter have been saying about the club announcement…
