It looks like the end of the road for Gedson Fernandes at Tottenham Hotspur.

A Bola reported on Friday that Spurs and Benfica had agreed to terminate the 21-year-old’s 18-month loan deal – which had a £42 million purchase option – in North London.

Gedson hasn’t kicked a ball in the Premier League or Europa League these season and doesn’t even make Jose Mourinho’s squad for games in either competition.

The writing has been on the wall for some time and even Mourinho heavily hinted in his press conference on Friday [Football London] that the speculation was true.

Despite struggling with the Lilywhites, Gedson remains a very promising young midfielder and in time, will probably prove that.

But he isn’t going to prove his ability as a Tottenham player and here’s how some fans of the club reacted to the report about his premature exit:

When you think about - if Giovani Lo Celso isn’t a first-team regular in the Premier League, which he isn’t, then how is Gedson supposed to be?

Mourinho simply has a lot better midfielders than the young Portuguese starlet, but hopefully a return to Benfica next month will lead to him playing regularly again.
