Alexander Sorloth didn’t score in 16 Premier League games for Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace and is now in Belgium with KAA Gent.
Gent’s technical director has indicated that he is hopeful of keeping hold of Crystal Palace loanee Alexander Sorloth beyond the end of the season, as reported by RTBF.
A somewhat bizarre £9 million signing from FC Midtjylland on the final day of the January 2018 transfer window (Sky), the Norwegian international arrived at Selhurst Park with many cynics claiming he was little more than an overpriced panic buy.
And, in truth, Sorloth did very little in Palace colours to dispel that notion. He failed to score in 16 Premier League games under Roy Hodgson before joining Belgian outfit Gent on loan 12 months later.
Sorloth has found goals easier to come by in the Jupiler League, hitting the target three times in nine games so far.
And, speaking to RTBF, director Michael Louwagie has indicated that a permanent deal might just be possible.
“Sorloth is going to leave us (as it stands) but in football things change every day,” he said.
“Today, he does not stay but maybe tomorrow it will be different. We have to talk about it.”
Crystal Palace will be hoping to recoup as much of their £9 million investment as possible but it looks likely that they would have to accept a loss on a player who never really looked up to the standards of the Premier League.
