Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out of the Europa League by Gent earlier this season.
Gent’s official Twitter account has fired back at a football fan who claimed that Tottenham Hotspur’s showing in the Europa League ‘exposed Mauricio Pochettino’s mediocrity’.
Pochettino has been widely acknowledged as one of the top managers in England, after transforming Spurs into title contenders.
However, Tottenham’s European record under his stewardship is arguably the blot on his copybook at White Hart Lane.
Spurs dropped out of the Champions League this season, and they were knocked out of the Europa League by Gent.
Spurs’ performances against the Belgian team were highly disappointing.
But Gent were still on the side of Pochettino, when they were asked for their opinion on the Argentine boss.
The big test for Pochettino at Spurs is now to win them a trophy, and the Lilywhites could achieve that aim this season.
Tottenham still have an outside chance in the Premier League title race, and have made it through to the FA Cup semi-finals.
