Gent boss warns players ahead of Tottenham Hotspur clash

The Belgian side suffered a shock defeat at the weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a setback in their hunt for the Premier League title this weekend, with a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield. A quick-fire salvo from Sadio Mane published a sloppy Spurs and Liverpool deserved their win.

Spurs now have to switch their attention to the Europa League. Tottenham are taking on Belgian side Gent on Thursday and they also go into the game on the back of a defeat.

Gent lost at home to AS Eupen, who are battling at the wrong end of the table, and after the game the Gent manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck had a warning for his players ahead of the meeting.

He was quoted by Voetbal Nieuws as stating his belief that his players cannot play like this against Spurs, or risk the consequences:

“I had the match nevertheless stressed the importance of this match and the fact that the players are certainly not allowed to play in this way in the match against Tottenham on Thursday.

“If they want to play again against such teams next year, then they cannot have a match like they did today.”

Tottenham will be fancying their chances of a comfortable win against the Belgian side anyway but to see the defeat they suffered against a team like Eupen will give Spurs hope of a big win on Thursday night.

Gent’s players would do well to heed their manager’s advice, as Tottenham are going to be on a backlash.
