Genoa have sacked manager Ivan Juric after a torrid run of form.
Ivan Juric (R) at Genoa
Genoa announced on Sunday that manager Ivan Juric has been sacked, with Andrea Mandorlini replacing him in the hot seat.
Sunday’s 5-0 hammering at the hands of Zdenek Zeman’s Pescara was an eighth defeat in the last ten games for Genoa, and something had to change.
With just two points picked up in that run, Genoa are sliding towards the relegation zone, and manager Juric has paid the ultimate price.
The Croatian was sacked on Sunday evening, with Genoa wasting no time at all having immediately brought in Andrea Mandorlini as his replacement.
Having been a popular figure with Genoa having spent four years with the club as a player before returning as manager last summer, Juric’s exit won’t have been easy for the decision-makers at the club, and it’s particularly interesting given his links to Leeds United last summer.
Following Steve Evans’ exit, a host of managers were linked with the Leeds job, and as we reported nine months ago, Juric became second favourite with bookmakers to take the reins at Elland Road.
Ivan Juric in action for Croatia
Juric, who had guided Crotone to promotion last season, ultimately chose Genoa instead, and he may be wondering just how his season could have gone differently had he ended up at Leeds instead.
Ultimately, Leeds certainly won’t be losing any sleep over Juric, as they appointed Garry Monk instead, and he has Leeds challenging for promotion back to the Premier League, meaning Massimo Cellino and co will be delighted with how the season – and their managerial choice – have played out this season.
