The Southampton star has been one of Claude Puel’s side’s best players this season and could be set for his first senior international call-up.
Southampton winger Nathan Redmond is set for a call-up to the senior England squad for the first time in his career, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 22-year-old who has already scored three league goals for the Saints since his £10 million switch from Norwich City in the summer and he has been a regular for Gareth Southgate at under-21 level for the last three years.
Redmond is currently fourth on the all-time record appearance list for the under-21s with 32 caps, scoring nine goals in the process, and interim England boss Southgate is allegedly ready to reward the Saints winger’s fine form.
Redmond has played under Southgate for the last three years for the under-21s and was part of the squads that went to the 2013 and 2015 European under-21 Championships.
Southgate has already relied on a few of his players from his time as under-21 manager, with the likes of Burnley’s Michael Keane and Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford being chosen for his maiden squad, after injuries freed up space ahead of their World Cup qualifying matches against Malta and Slovenia.
It appears that Redmond will be the latest Young Lion to be given a chance of earning his first senior cap, when Southgate announces his squad for next month’s fixtures against Spain and neighbours Scotland.
The report also claims that Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson may also be included, with Southgate keeping a close eye on the defender.
