Eight games, one win and no goals scored at home. Derby County haven’t had a great start to this Championship campaign.
Derby County Manager Nigel Pearson looks dejected
The appointment as manager of former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson, a man who did so much to build the foundations that helped Leicester City win the Premier League last season, sparked new life and optimism at Derby County this summer.
A poor start, however, has left the Rams languishing in 20th place, and fans will be hoping that Pearson will be given time to get the club climbing up the table. Pearson has been written off before, of course, especially at Leicester two seasons ago – when his club was bottom at Christmas, and an excellent late run of results meant that they finished that Premier League season in a respectable 14th place.
Scoring goals, however, appears to be the main issue for Derby – who have failed to find the net at the iPro Stadium at all this term, and who have only scored two goals on the road, including one on Saturday at Bristol City.
Derby had more than enough chances to win the weekend game, but missed a host of clear cut opportunities, as Matej Vydra, Darren Bent, James Wilson and Will Hughes all failed to capitalize on decent chances. Although it doesn’t help when you let one of your better strikers, Chris Martin, go on a season long-loan to Fulham.

Chopping and changing the side hasn’t helped, although Pearson will have wanted to assess his new squad, and he has had to deal with injuries, and the addition of new players post the transfer window.

Pearson does have an experienced Championship squad which it quite capable of fighting for promotion. It’s far too early to write off Derby’s chances this season, or Nigel Pearson.
