Sheffield Wednesday gained a crucial three points on the road after a superb individual strike from former Wolves, Burnley, and Sunderland man Steven Fletcher.

Wednesday came into the game in good form winning three of their last four matches, including a last gasp winner at Hillsborough on Saturday against Nottingham Forest.

Carlos Carvalhal made three changes after the weekend’s win bringing in David Jones, Liam Palmer and Will Buckley to freshen up the team, with games coming thick and fast.

After exceeding all expectations last season many tipped The Owls to be competing once more for a promotion although after a relatively slow start, Carvalhal’s men look to have finally found the form of last term.

It was a difficult game at Ewood Park with Rovers slowly picking up form themselves, although if Wednesday have aspirations of being in the Premier League hunt these are the sort of game they must win, and it was a test they passed.
