HITC Sport understands winger is on his way to North East for his medical as deal edges closer to completion.
Marseille winger Florian Thauvin is arriving in the North East on Tuesday to undergo his medical at Newcastle United, HITC Sport understands.
HITC Sport revealed earlier this month that Newcastle were very much still in the race to land Thauvin, and now they have reached a breakthrough in talks with Marseille.
Newcastle are looking to send Remy Cabella, who joined the club last summer from Montpellier, to the South of France in a loan move – with the idea of him returning to St James’ Park next year.
Cabella has set off for his medical and talks in Marseille, and Thauvin has done the opposite as Newcastle hope to conclude a deal by Thursday and he could even be in contention to figure against Manchester United this weekend.
Thauvin is now set to become Newcastle fifth summer signing and the seventh new face to arrive at the club following on from the arrivals of August 15: Ivan Toney, Chancel Mbemba, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Georginio Wijnaldum and Nottingham Forest pair Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles, who signed last summer but only joined in this window.
