Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League table, after five consecutive league wins.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis
In an exclusive interview with the Independent, Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis discussed the future of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, insisting that success will be key if he is to prolong his 20 year stay at the club.
Wenger has guided Arsenal to top four finishes in the Premier League in every single season during his tenure, but has been the target of criticism from fans and media alike for his failure to challenge more consistently for the title over recent years.
Gazidis explained how Arsenal football club are not dependant on Wenger, and how both the Frenchman and the club have to be on the same page, as far as taking the club forward is concerned, as quoted by the Independent:
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
“Arsenal is not Arsene Wenger. They’re not one in the same thing. He’s been clear and we’ve always been clear, that’s a mutual decision as to how long he’ll continue. Both need to be on the same page on that. In a football sense, he has transformed the club.”
Gunners fans are very much divided in regards to whether or not Wenger should be kept on after this season, but one thing is for sure, whenever he does leave, the Arsenal hierarchy must ensure that they make the correct appointment as his successor.

They need to learn from the mistakes made at Manchester United following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. With the culture that Wenger has created at the Emirates, the next manager has to be experienced enough to deal with the pressure that he will undoubtedly face.
If Arsenal were to win the league this season, however, and progress to the latter stages of the Champions League, it would be no surprise to see Wenger head further into his third decade with the club.
