The Newcastle United striker is currently the Championship’s top goalscorer.
Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle has told the Chronicle that the most important thing for him is to keep working hard, despite the goals flowing at present.
The striker joined the club in the summer transfer window as manager Rafa Benitez looked to add to his forward options.
He has proved to be a smart buy, with 11 goals in the Championship so far, a tally that sees him top of the division’s scoring charts at present.
A 20-goal haul or more must surely now be his target, one that looks very achievable given his current form.
Gayle, though, insists that his focus must be firmly on continuing to work to work hard.
“I am really enjoying my football at the moment but the most important thing is to keep working hard,” he told the Chronicle.
“I know how easy it can be to lose it and to stop getting the goals, the accomplishments and to enjoy my football. So I just need to keep working hard – and this is only the beginning.”
Newcastle will certainly be hoping that Gayle can maintain his form throughout the rest of the campaign.
Of the three promoted teams last season, two of them had players in the top three goal-scorers in the league.
That shows having a regular scorer plays a key part of teams challenging at the top end of the division and the Magpies will be keen for their man to stay top if they are to secure a return to the Premier League this year.
