Former AC Milan and Rangers midfielder Gennaro Gattuso could take over the reins at Czech side Viktoria Plzen, it is being suggested.
Gennaro Gattuso made a name for himself as a pugnacious midfielder who spent 13 years at AC Milan and lifted the World Cup with Italy in 2006.
The 36-year-old had a fearsome reputation on the pitch but was very popular with fans of the clubs he played for, which included a spell at Rangers in 1997.
Gattuso is married to a Scottish woman of Italian descent, Monica Romano, who he met while playing for Rangers in a friendly in Toronto.
The midfielder greatly enjoyed his spell in Scotland and has a near fluent grasp of English. He even put money into opening a fish and chip shop in the Italian city of Gallarate while he was playing for Milan.
But Gattuso’s introduction to management has been a tough one. A spell as player-manager of Swiss side Sion ended in dismissal after picking up just 10 points from 11 games, culminating in an embarrassing 5-0 defeat at St Gallen.
Gattuso was then appointed as coach at Sicilian Serie B side Palermo in June 2013 by notoriously trigger-happy club owner Maurizio Zamparini.
Fairly predictably, Gattuso was sacked by September having only accrued seven points from six games at a club who would go on to be promoted under a new coach.
Viktoria Plzen reached the last 16 of the Europa League this season where they were eliminated by Lyon and will take part in the Europa League against next term having finished as runners-up to Sparta Prague in the Gambrinus Liga.
