Derby County manager Gary Rowett has told Talksport the Rams are close to signing Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom.

The former Derby loanee has agreed terms over a return to Pride Park, after the two clubs settled on a fee.

And a medical examination will now take place before Wisdom becomes a permanent Rams player.

Rowett, who has already recruited Hull City centre-back Curtis Davies this summer, is targeting another “two or three” signings after Wisdom, but reiterated once more that his next priority will be moving players out of the club.

Key duo Tom Ince and Will Hughes have been strongly linked with Premier League moves in recent weeks, and the 43-year-old said: “Subject to medical, we’ve brought in Andre Wisdom. We’ve agreed it with the club, Liverpool, and we’ve agreed it with the player.

“We think we’ve made two strong signings to fill some of the areas we wanted to strengthen. We’re probably going to then do a few outs just to make sure that we balance [inaudible].

“Then we’ll go again. I’d expect to make another two or three signings and I think by the start of the season we’ll be a lot stronger and we’ll be a very different looking Derby team.

“[In recent years] we’ve had a very technically strong team that perhaps lacked a few of the elements you need.”

Derby begin the 2017-18 season with an away trip to newly relegated Sunderland, before back to back home games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Preston North End.

And the Rams will round off the month of August with visits to Championship new boys Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United.
