Following a good start to the Championship season, Birmingham manager Gary Rowett has spoken about his side’s closest rivals.

Following a 3-1 loss to Wolves a few weeks back, Birmingham have gone on a three-game unbeaten run which included an impressive 3-0 triumph over promotion candidates Norwich. Manager Gary Rowett has been slowing transforming his side into a potential top six challenger, and their league position in comparison to their rivals is something he was asked about when talking to the Birmingham Mail.
Rowett was asked: “Do you get any satisfaction when you look at a couple of the other local teams that have spent millions in the window?”
He responded by saying “Absolutely none whatsoever, no. No. I wouldn’t even think about how we are seeing games out really well at the moment.”

The comment could be seen as sarcastic by fans of Wolves & Villa, as Rowett went on to say a good early start was important.
“I think you would be stupid to think you are not bothered if your team is nearer to the bottom because you have got a lot more work to do to catch everyone one.
“I look at the table, I don’t put much significance in it but I have my own calculations where we are in the table, how many points per set of games and how that equates to what you have got to do on average to finish where you want to finish.”

The Blues will be looking to continue their good run of form when they face Sheffield Wednesday this weekend in a game which could see them record their fourth consecutive clean sheet.
Rowett’s comments may have fueled the fire for the upcoming Second City derby, with Birmingham and Aston Villa set to face off on October 30th. Despite their differing fortunes so far this season, form will mean nothing once the whistle blows at St Andrews.
