Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United lost against Wigan Athletic on Friday.

Leeds United suffered a surprise defeat to Wigan Athletic at Elland Road in the Championship on Friday evening.
Despite taking an early goal and playing most of the game with a one-man advantage, Marcelo Bielsa’s side went down 2-1 to Wigan at home.
The Whites created chances and had 36 shots, but the home team simply failed to take their chances and lacked the cutting edge.
After the game, Leeds head coach Bielsa took the blame for the defeat, as quoted in The Daily Mail.
The former Athletic Bilbao manager said that he was to take responsibility for the loss suffered by his team.
Former Derby County and Stoke City manager Gary Rowett has given his take on Bielsa’s comments, and so has ex-Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood.

Rowett said on The Debate show on Sky Sports Football on Friday night (10:30pm, April 19, 2019) regarding Bielsa’s post-match comments: “He almost berated himself for not winning the game. He said it was completely his fault, which I felt was incredibly magnanimous.”
Sherwood said on The Debate show on Sky Sports Football on Friday night (10:30pm, April 19, 2019): “He is unfair on himself there today because the goalkeeper for Wigan is probably still in the ice-bath now. It’s unlucky, it’s just one of those days.”
Bouncing back
Bielsa may have taken the blame, but it was clear that the attacking players on the pitch for Leeds needed to have done more.
Leeds will now be aiming to bounce back on Monday evening when they take on Brentford away from home in the Championship.
