Gary Neville has warned that Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe, along with Everton’s owner, Farhad Moshiri, are going to be ‘pushed like you wouldn’t believe’, as he told The Overlap.

The recent events at Chelsea, which has seen their Russian owner, Roman Abramovich, sanctioned by the UK Government has shed more light on the people behind football clubs.

Prior to Newcastle United’s takeover, there was huge backlash at the Saudi-owned group replacing Mike Ashley in the boardroom because of the Human Rights issues in their country, amongst other serious matters.

Whilst Everton have had to cut several sponsorship deals with Russian companies because of Alisher Usmanov, who has also been sanctioned and is a close business associate of the club’s owner, Farhad Moshiri.

All in all, after what has happened at Stamford Bridge, Neville thinks there are certain individuals, clubs and owners who will now get a lot thrown at them.

“Off what has happened at Chelsea,” said Neville. “There are going to be a lot more questions asked in the future.

“There are going to be higher hurdles that are going to have to be met. These socials you talk about, in terms of social, geopolitical and massive issues that exist in society. Football is not going to ignore it anymore because it’s on its doorstep and bled its way into the game.

“Most of Tuchel’s press conferences during the past four weeks and the next five weeks are probably not going to do with football.

“Man City are going to be asked more questions. Eddie Howe is going to get pushed like you wouldn’t believe. The Everton owners are going to get pushed like you wouldn’t believe.”

To put it in a blunt fashion an individual like Abramovich should never have been allowed to buy Chelsea in the first place.

But it took Russia invading Ukraine for him to get kicked out and all of this is a problem that stems from the top.

The powers that be allow owners, who shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near football clubs, to buy them.

And, at the end of the day, it’s the fans who suffer, the richer football gets, the more it dies within. It’s no longer the game for the fan on the street.
