Gary Neville thinks Aston Villa will be an even bigger attacking threat once Ollie Watkins finds his best form again, as per his comments to his self-titled podcast.

Villa were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United at the weekend, but Dean Smith’s side certainly did not disgrace themselves with their display at Old Trafford.

Villa were a constant threat in the contest, as they put United under some serious pressure.

And Neville says that he was seriously impressed by Villa’s performance against his former side.

“This is a completely different proposition,” Neville explained.

“They were really good in the game. I was massively impressed with Villa.

“Ollie Watkins, when he just gets that little bit of luck and it starts going in for him, they could become even more dangerous. They look really good in defence and midfield.”

Watkins made a blistering start at Villa when he first signed, but his form has slowed now.

The 25-year-old forward has not scored for eight games, despite Villa picking up some impressive results over that time.

Watkins’ link-up play means that he is still an important player for Smith’s side, but he will need to start chipping in with goals again if he is to keep his place.

Wesley is getting close to returning to fitness now, and when the Brazilian does comeback, Watkins’s spot will come under pressure unless he can start hitting the back of the net more regularly.
