Gary Neville told Sky Sports, during their live coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Everton, that he thought Toby Alderweireld looked slow yesterday.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Everton and the scoreline could have been even more heavy, if Richarlison had shown greater composure.

There was a stage in the first half were the ball broke lose and the Everton man managed to latch on to it, before going round the keeper and blazing his shot over.

Alderweireld had looked the favourite to get to the ball first, but Richarlison ended up bursting past him with ease.

And Neville was concerned by how slow the Tottenham player looked.

“Alderweireld got it badly wrong. You used to look at him a few years ago and think he was really quick but it looked like he had lost a yard there,” he said.

“Whether it was Richarlison’s speed I’m not sure.”

Alderweireld has shown signs of age at Tottenham over the past year, but he was still handed a new deal by the North London club.

The Belgian also remains a key part of Mourinho’s starting line-up alongside Eric Dier in the heart of Tottenham’s defence.

Spurs will need Alderweireld and his teammates to improve if they are to live up to expectations though, as they were badly off colour against Everton.
