Gary Neville praised Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford’s on Monday Night Football (30/11/20 at 5:10 pm) by praising his movement inside the penalty area.
The TV pundit was initially explaining how Edinson Cavani is ‘one of the best’ at making runs ‘in and around the post’ before name-checking Leeds’ star man as someone else who ‘does it very well’.
Nevermind inside the penalty area, Bamford, 27, is all action attacker all over the pitch and it’s a big reason as to why he is so popular with Marcelo Bielsa.
But when Neville was praising Cavani for his qualities following his brace at Southampton, he also shared how Bamford is like that, albeit the Manchester United man has been a ‘different level’ for the last ‘five or six years’.
“He’s [Cavani] one of the best and has been for years, we played against him for England, at making that run in and around the post,” said Neville. “He does it all the time. He is always there.
“I think he is one of the best at that. One of the very, very best. I think, to be fair, Bamford does it very well. I am not putting them in the same category because Cavani has been a different level for the last five or six years.
“But you can tell teams who have strikers who can do that.”

That quality Bamford has in his locker has resulted in him being on the end of a number of big chances during his career.
During his days in the Championship, the Englishman would become a marmite-like figure for that reason, because on one hand, he is a 7/10 without scoring, but on the other, he is missing costly opportunities.
Either way, those days are long gone now and he has been one of the top performers in the Premier League this season.
