Gary Neville has suggested to Stadium Astro that Liverpool need to sign Thiago Alcanatara if they are to think about defending their Premier League crown.
Liverpool dominated in England last term, as they finally won their first ever Premier League trophy.
However, while Liverpool’s main rivals have strengthened, Jurgen Klopp’s side have stood still.
The Reds have only brought in back-up left-back Kostas Tsimikas so far this summer.
And Neville feels that the addition of Thiago will be imperative to Liverpool’s chances of defending their title this term.
“Liverpool have been brilliant for two years, but I think it’s hard to win back to back titles,” he said.
“Liverpool could do it, they’re an exceptional team, and if they are to sign Thiago it would make them very strong again. But I do think they need that one signing.
“They need that stimulus for the squad, who have been together for a couple of years.

“I think City will be the strongest team again this year, as I think they’ll be revitalised under Pep Guardiola.”
If Liverpool are to get a deal for Thiago over the line then it seems that they will need to sell before they can buy.
The Reds are under pressure to raise funds, and it could be that a midfielder has to depart before Liverpool can think about bringing the Spanish international to Anfield.
