West Ham United’s Mark Noble was overlooked for England in favour of Everton’s Ross Barkley.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has explained to talkSPORT why West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble did not feature for England at the 2016 European Championship in France in the summer.
Noble had a good 2015-16 campaign with West Ham and was one of the better midfielders in the Premier League last season.
The 29-year-old midfielder, though, was overlooked for the England squad for the Euro 2016 finals.
Former United defender Neville, who was a coach in the Three Lions’ set-up for the tournament in France, has explained why Noble was not selected.
The former England international has revealed that Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley was picked ahead of the West Ham star due to the 22-year-old having more talent.
“We didn’t pick Mark Noble, even though he might have been in better form than Ross Barkley, because we invested in Ross Barkley,” Neville told talkSPORT. “He was our man, he was the person who was the most talented player.”
Barkley is a very good and promising young attacking midfielder, and he is certainly someone who is going to be part of the England set-up for years to come.
Noble is a different kind of midfielder, and perhaps he should have been picked for the European Championship in France in the summer.
