The former Manchester United star gave his take on the Gunners in the 89th minute of the Premier League game between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield on Monday evening.
Neville was on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports, and while he was impressed with the Reds, he believes that the Gunners can be encouraged by their own performance.
Neville said during his co-commentary on Sky Sports Premier League (9:49pm, September 28, 2020): “You could never take a lot away from a result like this. Mikel Arteta won’t celebrate it at the end, but I think he will recognise that his team have moved forward here tonight. This is a brilliant Liverpool team who played really well. They stayed in this game for a long time.”
Encouraging performance from Arsenal
True, Arsenal suffered a 3-1 defeat at the end, but it could have been different had Alexandre Lacazette scored when it was still 2-1 to Liverpool.
Although the Reds were the better side overall, there were moments when the defending Premier League champions came under pressure.
Arsenal are a work in progress, and it is clear that there is a gap between them and the Reds.
However, it was a very encouraging performance from Arteta’s side, who are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
Over the course of the 90 minutes at Anfield on Monday evening, visitors Arsenal had 34% of the possession, took four shots of which three were on target, and earned three corners, according to BBC Sport.
