Gary Neville has criticised Arsenal defender Ben White for the goal that Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford scored in the first half of the Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium in North London on Sunday afternoon.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that Arsenal star Ben White should have done better to stop Marcus Rashford from giving Manchester United the lead in the first half.

Rashford put the Red Devils ahead in the 27th minute.

The England international forward was fed the ball on the left channel, and from there he cut inside and scored.

It was a wonderful goal.

Criticism for Arsenal defender Ben White vs Manchester United

Former United defender Gary Neville, though, has noted that White should have closed down Rashford.

The Englishman has been playing as a central defender this season.

But, against United on Sunday, the £93,000-a-week (SalarySport) defender started at right-back.

Neville said on Sky Sports Premier League (4:57pm, September 3, 2023): “Ben White is four, five yards away, he should get tighter, and he pays for it.”

While Ben White could have closed down Marcus Rashford, we have to praise the Manchester United forward for how he took his goal.

We know that Rashford is at his best cutting in from the left.

And he was teed up perfectly for the goal.

The main problem with the goal was how United got possession of the ball in the first place.

We think that the goal was more due to Rashford’s class than due to White not closing him down.
