Gary Neville has suggested that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool should have half their TV money taken away from them next season for attempting to join the Super League.

Arsenal and Liverpool shocked the world of football when they joined forces with the ‘big six’ and tried to enter the newly formed competition.

The idea was quickly shut down, after mass protests outside the Emirates Stadium and Anfield.

Immediately talk of punishments were vast, but that has died down as time has passed by.

However, Neville – who was one of the most outspoken pundits on the idea – still wants severe sanctions given to both Liverpool and Arsenal ahead of next season.

With TV revenue in the Premier League standing at around £160 million for most of the big six, the fines would be mammoth of they were to be handed out to both Liverpool and Arsenal.

That could seriously impact on the transfer spending of the ‘big six’ for next season and it would certainly make the summer window interesting.

All of the breakaway clubs, who typically sit in the upper echelons of the table, would surely have to curb their spending plans if they were given such a fine – and that could give the chasing pack a chance to catch up.

However, the chances of Liverpool, Arsenal and the rest facing such severe action seems more and more unlikely, the longer time passes.
