Gary Neville has shared that he isn’t looking forward to Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City at the Etihad when he thinks about it with his Manchester United cap on.

But he admitted, ‘as a football fan’ he can’t speak highly of the ‘greatness’ of these two teams, as he told Sky Sports.

On Sunday, the footballing world will stop still as all eyes will be on Liverpool’s Premier League title showdown against Manchester City at the Etihad.

It is set to be a blockbuster match and one that could define who wins the 2021/22 Premier League title.

Neville shared his honest thoughts on that upcoming meeting, which will be the first of two during these coming weeks.

“We go into that game on Sunday,” said Neville. “Obviously, we are doing that game.

“It’s going to be absolutely brilliant. I can’t look forward to it from a Manchester United fan’s point of view because it’s Liverpool and Manchester City.

“What you have to respect as a football fan is the greatness of these two teams and what we will witness will be exceptional. It’s going to be a fantastic few weeks of football.”

Games after the international break can always be tricky because managers don’t know what condition their well-travelled players are in.

But Jurgen Klopp guided his team to a comfortable three points over Watford, as Man City did the same hours later, this time against Burnley.

Whilst many will be talking about that Sunday meeting, the duo still have Champions League matters to deal with in midweek.

For Liverpool, it’s a trip to Portugal to take on Benfica, whilst Man City will welcome Diego Simeone’s all-action Atletico Madrid side to the Etihad.
