Liverpool slipped up on Wednesday night, as they could only draw 0-0 away at Newcastle United.

The Reds were looking to bounce back having also drawn on Sunday, failing to beat West Bromwich Albion in a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

However, Liverpool were flat again and couldn’t break down a stubborn Newcastle side, slumping to a goalless stalemate.

Liverpool are lacking some fluency at the moment, and whilst Thiago’s return from injury is a boost, some fans are a little concerned with recent displays.

Two points from games against West Brom and Newcastle have allowed Manchester United to close the gap with wins over Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

United are now just three points behind Liverpool, and they kick off before the Reds this weekend; they face Aston Villa on Friday night and Liverpool don’t play until Monday night at Southampton.

That means United can move level on points with Liverpool by beating Villa at Old Trafford, which would be a big moment for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co.

After Liverpool’s draw, Gary Neville took to Twitter to laugh at how United can now go ‘joint top’ with Jurgen Klopp’s side with a win – though some may now feel that he is tempting fate by already thinking about that before facing a tough Villa side.
