Leeds United meet an old rival in August.

Leeds United have been drawn against new Football League club Salford City in the Carabao Cup.

The Whites play away to Salford in the August clash, which will be shown on television.

Leeds’ opponents Salford are co-owned by Gary Neville, formerly of Manchester United.

Neville sent a message on Twitter, joking that it was a pleasure to be resuming hostilities with Leeds.

Neville is referring to the 15 year gap since Leeds dropped out of the Premier League.

But his message isn’t quite accurate.

Jermaine Beckford of Leeds United gestures during the Coca Cola League One match between Leeds United and Bristol Rovers at Elland Road on May 8, 2010 in Leeds, England.

As Leeds supporters were happy to point out, Neville was part of the Manchester United team which lost 1-0 to Leeds in the FA Cup in 2010 when Jermaine Beckford scored a winner at Old Trafford.

Neville conveniently or either deliberately forgot that one, but when August comes around, his side will be the plucky underdogs.
