Pundit Gary Neville has heaped praise on Arsenal playmaker Martin Odegaard while suggesting teammates should always be looking to him.

Martin Odegaard has been picked out as Arsenal’s best player by pundit Gary Neville.

Neville was speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast after Arsenal beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal toiled at times as they attempted to break Everton down, no doubt fearing a repeat of last season’s 1-0 defeat to the Toffees.

The goal did finally come though as Leandro Trossard finished off a superb corner routine to win the game for Arsenal.

Gary Neville hails Arsenal star Martin Odegaard

Trossard may have won the game but pundit Neville suggested that Martin Odegaard is the star man in the Gunners side.

Neville noted that Odegaard is really taking his game towards being top-class and would fit into the Manchester City side.

Neville then added that Arsenal players need to realise just how good Odegaard is and get the ball to him as much as possible.

The former Manchester United defender thinks that Arsenal will ultimately score more goals and have more success as long as they keep feeding Odegaard in the final third – because he is simply that good.

“Arsenal must recognise what they have – and I’m talking about the Arsenal players,” said Neville. “[They must] feed him as much as they possibly can in the game. The more he gets on the ball in the final third, the more assists and goals they will have in matches,” he added.

Arsenal nearing new deal for Odegaard

Neville is probably right in that Manchester City would love to land Odegaard, but Arsenal are close to securing his future.

Fabrizio Romano reported just days ago that Arsenal have now ‘received positive feedback’ from Odegaard’s camp over a new contract.

Romano claims that negotiations are advancing and Odegaard wants to stay, seemingly having no plans to leave Arsenal.

Odegaard is still contracted until 2025 but Arsenal are making moves to get the Norwegian tied down right now.

If Odegaard signs on for a few more years, we could see the 24-year-old produce absolute brilliance towards his 30’s.
