Gary Neville has said that he still worries about Tottenham Hotspur’s goalkeeper and centre-backs, on his self-titled podcast.
Tottenham now lead the way in the Premier League table, with suggestions that they are genuine title contenders growing even louder.
Jose Mourinho’s side beat Manchester City 2-0 at the weekend, and Spurs’s performance in the contest was very eye-catching.
Tottenham defended resolutely and broke with menace, as their whole team seem to buy into Mourinho’s game plan.
Spurs have proven a major threat of the season so far, but Neville still has some doubts about their defensive line.
“That’s the worry, the triangle of goalkeeper and centre-backs, whether that will be enough,” Neville said.

“I have to say they have Doherty at right-back and Reguilon I thought was brilliant yesterday at left-back, they have Davies in support there, and Aurier who did really well yesterday and looked less emotional and rash in his defending.
“So you say can the centre-backs and goalkeeper outperform where they ordinarily will be? Or can Hojbjerg give them the protection?
“I still don’t think they’ll win the league, I don’t think they’re anywhere near Liverpool, but it’s a strange season.”
Tottenham’s centre-backs have been questioned regularly this season, so Neville’s doubts there are no surprise.
However, to see Spurs’s goalkeeping position be considered a concern is a shock.
Hugo Lloris has been one of Tottenham’s most reliable figures since Mourinho’s arrival, and they also have Joe Hart and Paulo Gazzaniga in reserve.
Spurs have now conceded only once in their last four Premier League matches now, although a game against Chelsea next weekend will really test their backline’s quality.
