Gary Neville has shared that Liverpool’s Andy Robertson is ‘unlucky’ not to make his Team of the Season so far, as he told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.
The Sky pundit named Manchester City’s João Cancelo and Robertson’s Liverpool teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, as his fullbacks in the XI during the halfway stage of the Premier League campaign.
Whilst Cancelo can also operate on the right-side, he has been outstanding wherever Pep Guardiola has played him this term, including as a left-back.
Liverpool fans may have different views, but some will argue that Cancelo is probably the best fullback in the league right now.
Either way, Neville thinks both Cancelo and Alexander-Arnold are ‘absolutely amazing’ and they are the reason why Robertson doesn’t make his Team of the Season so far.
“I thought of the two fullbacks (Alexander-Arnold and Cancelo),” said Neville. “I thought it was unlucky on Robertson.
“I think Cancelo and Alexander-Arnold have lit up this league from fullback this year. They are just absolutely amazing.”

A lot of things have changed since Neville was rampaging down the right flank in Manchester United colours in the 90s’ and early noughties.
There aren’t many positions in world football today that have transformed so much over the years.
Players like Alexander-Arnold and Cancelo have played their part in it becoming a role for more attack-minded players and performers that can put up numbers expected by a playmaker.
Supporters will argue all night long as to who has the best fullback in the world, but most will probably argue they are either donning the colours of Liverpool or Manchester City.
