Speaking on the ITV Football Podcast, Gary Neville has compared Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish with Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier.
Neville was speaking about Grealish’s involvement with the England team, and he says that due to his incredible showings for Villa, people expect him to replicate that type of form at international level.
Neville believes that people have grown accustomed to seeing spectacular moments from Grealish in the same way they were used to seeing Le Tissier pull of unbelievable moments on a weekly basis.
What’s been said?
Neville said that Grealish played well despite not delivering something spectacular.
“I think he did do well. On reflection, we wanted that moment didn’t we? But he delivered that moment with the goal,” Neville said.
“We expect the spectacular from these players for England, it’s the same as Matt Le Tissier when he came in, Joe Cole when he played for England, if they didn’t deliver something spectacular then it was almost as if they weren’t contributing. But I thought Jack did contribute with his positional play in the first-half, he was calm and composed, he did win free-kicks.”

The modern day Le Tissier
Is Grealish a modern-day Le Tissier?
Well, he certainly has a similar level of technical ability and he can produce spectacular moments.
However, Grealish works a lot harder on the pitch than Le Tissier ever did, but perhaps that’s just a bi-product of the way the modern game has gone.
Will Grealish stay loyal to Villa for his entire career in the same way Le Tissier did with Southampton? Only time will tell.
