Serge Aurier produced yet another questionable display as Tottenham Hotspur’s poor form continued in the Premier League.
Gary Neville has mocked Serge Aurier for his poor showing during Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
With the game level, Aurier fouled Sadio Mane in a pretty reckless manner in the penalty area, as he had more than one bite at the player before giving away the spot-kick.
Mo Salah put the penalty away as Jurgen Klopp’s side held on for all three points, with Aurier once again showing the reckless side of his game.
Speaking to Sky Sports Premier League (27/10/19) just after the penalty was awarded, Neville was very critical of Aurier as he stated that if he’s not getting a yellow card, red card or giving away a goal then it’s a very rare occasion.
“I always think when you watch Aurier defend, it’s a mess,” Neville told Sky Sports. “It’s just something that you see. He’s a player who’s not in control. He’s not composed. He’s rash. He’s [VAR] not going to turn that [penalty] over. Absolutely no chance.
“You always think with Aurier there’s a good chance it’s a yellow, it’s a red or it’s a goal given away. If he gets away with those three it’s a pretty rare game.”
It’s not the first time that Aurier, who joined Spurs for £23 million from PSG in 2017 [BBC Sport], has performed like this, and it’s not the first time he has showcased his reckless side this season.
Against Southampton earlier on in the campaign, he was shown two first-half yellows for two sloppy challenges, but luckily for him, his teammates bailed him out and secured the points.
Against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, he was all over the place against the German’s, who put seven past their London opponents.
