Manchester United legend Gary Neville responds to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s comments today.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has taken to social reworking site Twitter to give his reaction to recent comments from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Earlier this week, former United and England international defender Neville suggested to The Times that Liverpool should prioritise the Premier League to the Champions League to win the league title this season.
Neville told The Times: “The Champions League — if I was Liverpool, I would kick it into touch. I know that’s very hard to do but if they could go into February, March, April without it, I think they could have a real chance if they had free weeks.
“Why? I think their method is exhausting for the front three [Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino]. The drop in quality below them, if there are injuries or playing Wednesday, Saturday, I think it will take its toll.”
Earlier today, Liverpool manager Klopp responded to the aforementioned comments from United legend Neville.
The Liverpool Echo quotes the German boss as saying: “How should that work We don’t play Champions League, or what?
“Gary should come over and tell me exactly how that works. How do you prepare for a game when you don’t focus on it?
“Bring your kids into the Champions League, that would be funny. I don’t know what he means, to be honest.”
Neville, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has responded to Klopp’s comments on Twitter.
Premier League title challenge
Liverpool have a strong squad, and their performances so far this season make it clear that they are going to give Manchester City for a run of their money in the Premier League.
Given the high intensity with which Klopp’s team play, it will be interesting to see how they cope with playing twice in a week in the second half of the season if they progress to the group stages of the Champions League and in the domestic cup competitions.
