Gary Neville has claimed that ‘it hasn’t been a problem for Manchester City’ compared with Manchester United, after he was asked whether Everton being in the same city as Liverpool has almost made their job ‘impossible’.
It was Sky commentator, Martin Tyler, who asked Neville the question and he responded by saying ‘it’s a very good answer’, as he told Sky Sports.
Prior to the money flooding in on the blue half of Manchester, the current Premier League champions were either a mid-table team or someone who spent a lot of their time outside of England’s top-flight.
Manchester United were, for most parts, the top dogs, not just in their own city, but in England, as they dominated for decades under Sir Alex Ferguson.
But that didn’t stop the ’noisy neighbour’, when the money came pouring in, to put their foot on the accelerator and surge towards the top of English football.
When Neville was asked the question about Everton and Liverpool, he used Manchester City as an example.
“Do you think being in the same city as Liverpool makes it almost an impossible job?” asked Tyler.
Neville responded: “Well, it hasn’t been a problem for Manchester City. The noisy neighbours are still incredibly noisy.”
Tyler then added: “It’s a very good answer. Even that took a while for the diehard fans to accept.”
The issue facing Everton is that they have spent over £500 million under Farhad Moshiri, yet they have seemed to have gone backwards.
From having Roberto Martinez as their manager to the trophy-laden coach in Carlo Ancelotti.
In the end, the results have all been the same and the current signs are starting to worry the supporters.
On a positive for the Goodison Park faithful, Rafa Benitez is out of the door, but another issue is those in the boardroom, who put the club in this current mess, are the ones now tasked to get them out of it.
