Gary Neville has praised West Bromwich Albion-owned Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon for his performance against Liverpool at the weekend, as quoted in The Chronicle.

Rondon, signed on a season-long loan deal from Championship club West Brom in the summer of 2018, scored for Newcastle in their 3-2 defeat to Liverpool at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

The 29-year-old Venezuela international striker’s overall performance was brilliant, as the former Rubin Kazan and Zenit Saint Petersburg star put the Liverpool defence under pressure.

Manchester United legend Neville was impressed with the performance of Rondon, and believes that he put Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk under pressure.

The Chronicle quotes Neville as saying about Rondon: “He was very good. You don’t see van Dijk disturbed so often.

“He (Van Dijk) was winning his headers, but he was always having to fight to win them. He was put under big pressure and Rondon was a big problem, especially for Lovren.”

Permanent Newcastle United move?

Rondon has been brilliant for Newcastle this season, and it will make sense for the Magpies to sign him up on a permanent contract as he is the type of striker that manager Rafael Benitez wants for this team.

According to WhoScored, the striker has made 29 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Magpies this season, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in the process.
