Gary Neville has told his self-titled podcast that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur can become even more of a threat if they can get Gareth Bale starting regularly.

Bale has struggled to live up to expectations after arriving back at Tottenham, with the Welshman not yet forcing his way into Jose Mourinho’s preferred line up.

Bale has suffered with fitness issues throughout his second spell at Spurs, and is currently sidelined with injury.

But Neville feels that Tottenham will be an even better side if Mourinho can work out a way to get the 31-year-old back to his best.

“Tottenham have two world class forwards in Son and Harry Kane,” Neville said. “If they can get Gareth Bale out on the pitch and scoring then they could become even more potent in front of goal.”

Tottenham have already been one of the most dangerous attacking threats in the league this term, after scoring 29 goals in 16 games.

Bale has only hit the back of the net once in the Premier League since his return though, with the former Real Madrid man not yet firing on all cylinders.

Mourinho seems to prefer Steven Bergwijn to start over Bale at the moment, due to the Dutchman’s willingness to work hard in defence as well as attack.

Tottenham are next in action against Brentford tomorrow, but it seems unlikely that Bale will make it back in time for that contest.
