Gary Neville has predicted that Everton may actually achieve what they should this season, on his self-titled podcast.

Everton have made an impressive start to their league campaign and currently sit in fourth place in a congested Premier League table.

The Toffees have looked strong over the season so far though.

And Neville has seen enough to suggest that Everton can sustain a challenge to claim one of the top spots in the table.

“Every single season for the last 10 I’ve been working for Sky I’ve thought ‘is this the season where Everton can really step up and challenge and do better and start to threaten’,” he said.

“It feels like this season is the season where they are going to achieve what they should be achieving, as it feels like they have been underachieving for a few years.

“It’s a big game for them on Wednesday evening. Everton need to win a trophy. They’re doing well, they have a style of play and good forwards, Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are a real threat.

“They have good players in midfield, they look stronger, and they just look like they have more back bone to them.”

Everton actually had a slight slump recently, but they have responded well by winning three games on the spin.

Everton’s latest victory came against Arsenal, as they inflicted further misery on Mikel Arteta’s side.

The Toffees’ focus will now be on their League Cup clash with Manchester United in midweek.

Carlo Ancelotti has tended to rotate in the competition so far, but has still regularly named strong line-ups.

And it is expected that Everton will name almost a full strength side in midweek, as they look to progress further in the competition.
