Gary Neville has admitted to Sky Sports that if Liverpool do sign Thiago Alcantara then they will be a stronger side for it.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with the Bayern Munich man throughout the summer so far, but have yet to get a deal over the line for the Spaniard.
ESPN have claimed that Liverpool will only push for a deal if Georginio Wijnaldum departs.
However, reports in Germany have been more confident that a deal will happen for the 29-year-old playmaker.
And Neville feels that if Liverpool do bring in Thiago then Manchester United may need to make four or five signings just to keep up, as he will make their side even stronger.
Neville said: “I think there are definitely four or five players required and to not get three [for United].
“I think it would be a problem because of what the other clubs are doing.

“If Liverpool get Thiago, if Manchester City do what they are looking like they are going to do and with Chelsea doing what they’ve done, they are your competitors and they all look like they are improving and moving forward.”
Liverpool dominated in the Premier League last term, but there is a feeling that Thiago’s signing would take them to the next level.
The Bayern man is one of the finest technical operators in world football, and he would give Jurgen Klopp a different option to what he already has at the club.
