Gary Neville has said on Sky Sports Premier League (10:51pm, April 19, 2021) that there are three reasons why Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy decided to sack Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham announced on Monday that they have sacked Mourinho as the first-team head coach.

Ryan Mason has been placed in charge of the first team for now, and it is likely that Spurs will appoint a permanent successor to Mourinho at the end of the season.

Former Manchester United defender Neville, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has listed three theories why Levy decide to sack Mourinho.

Neville said on Sky Sports Premier League (10:51pm, April 19, 2021) : “There’s three things that come to my mind. One is Daniel waking up in the morning and thinking this seems a good time to do it. There’s lot going on. I will bury it.

“The other thing is I don’t want to let Jose win a trophy and then there will be a bigger problem for me at the end of the season. The other one would be potentially that players or someone has gone to the owners and said this is not quite right in there.”

Big decision

With Tottenham to play against Manchester City in the EFL Cup this coming weekend, it was a big decision from the North London club to sack Mourinho.

The Portuguese is one of the greatest managers of all time and is a serial winner, and having taken Spurs to close to winning a trophy, he would have surely wanted to stay and finish the job.

It will be interesting to see how Mason does in the EFL Cup final against one of the best tacticians in the world, Pep Guardiola.
