Gary Neville hilariously asked whether Virgil van Dijk was coming off as the injuries mounted up during Liverpool’s goalless draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

In what was a stop-start first half of action, the home team saw three players coming off injured in Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Jese Lingard. Added with that, Roberto Firmino was also replaced by Daniel Sturridge.

United striker Marcus Rashford also seemed to be struggling with a muscle injury as he completed the full match in what was a pretty quiet affair in terms of goalmouth action.

After all the injuries had occurred in the opening 40 minutes, Andrew Robertson went down after colliding with Romelu Lukaku moments before the break, which promoted Neville to make this comment on commentary.

“Is Van Dijk coming off [next]?,” Neville jokingly asked on commentary for Sky Sports Premier League (24/02/2019) as Robertson went down following a collision with Lukaku.

Martin Tyler then joked by saying: “Are you hoping? Jamie went white then,”.

In the game itself, it didn’t really break into life with the injuries and the constant stoppages disrupting the quality of the match.

There is no doubt that Liverpool will be pleased with the point and the clean sheet as their hopes of clinching their first Premier League title in nearly three decades remain intact.

The Reds are now a point above second-placed Manchester City in the table, with Pep Guardiola’s side playing Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley later on Sunday afternoon.

Nonetheless, with 11 matches of the season remaining, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his team don’t suffer any more hiccups as they aim to finish top of the pack.
