The Spurs chairman has overseen huge growth on and off the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur Arena.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has been described as “the best operator in football” by Premier League legend and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.
Over the past few years, Spurs have grown in virtually every aspect on and off the pitch, from building a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title and reaching the latter stages of the Champions League to moving into a state-of-the-art new stadium.
In terms of players and coaches, Tottenham have long ceased to be a “selling club”, retaining many of its key assets such as Mauricio Pochettino and Harry Kane, which has enabled the team to go from strength to strength, and Levy has been praised by Neville for playing a major role in this transformation.
“From a Tottenham point of view, they have got the best, I believe, operator in football in Levy,” Neville told Sky Sports, as quoted by Football London. “He is absolutely the best, for me. He gets some things wrong, of course he does. But he doesn’t get messed around. He stands his ground and stands up to managers.
“If you’d have said to me 10 years ago that they’ve got Harry Kane, Eriksen, all these great players – they would be gone. The first step for Tottenham is retaining the good players that they have. They have always lost their best player, their best two players. So for me, Tottenham, the last three years, keeping the manager and keeping the three or four best players has been clever.”
Tottenham began their 2019-20 Premier League campaign on a winning note as they ran out 3-1 winners over newly promoted Aston Villa, and up next for Pochettino and co is a trip to champions Manchester City in Saturday’s late kickoff.
In terms of European competition, Spurs will discover their Champions League group stage fate on Thursday 29 August, when the draw is made in Monaco (Football London).
