Tottenham Hotspur are hunting down Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table.
Gary Neville
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville highlighted how Spurs could have the edge over the Blues in the Premier League title race, when speaking on Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football programme, with momentum firmly in the corner of Mauricio Pochettino’s men, as both club’s head into the final straight.
Tottenham have been on an exceptional run of late, whilst Chelsea have faltered in recent weeks, and Antonio Conte’s men have seen their lead at the top cut to just four points, with six games still to be played.
After the North London outfit lost 2-0 against Liverpool at Anfield on February 11th, they have reeled off seven consecutive victories in the league, and it will probably take another six wins if they are to catch the Blues.
And Neville explained why Chelsea could begin to stumble in the title race, when speaking live on Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football, with Spurs seemingly in the driving seat with regards to momentum:
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte
‘”I think Chelsea should get over the line but if their is a reduction in the gap to two points I think Chelsea would be under significant pressure and they would be in trouble. I think when you’ve let a ten-point lead go down to two, you’ve got a completely different mentality. When you lose momentum at this time of the season, momentum is everything, the legs go, they’re heavy, the mind goes, you make mistakes.”
The two sides meet at Wembley on Saturday in the FA Cup semi final, and the eventual winners of that clash could hold a huge psychological advantage going into the final half dozen Premier League games.
And in a race that is too tough to call, it would take a brave man to bet against either side.
